Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It is an honor to serve as your representative in the North Carolina House. On January 29, 2025, I was appointed to House District 40 after the passing of Rep. Joe John. Like you, I mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant who gave so much to North Carolina—as a judge, senior executive official, and legislator. Filling his shoes is an impossible task, but I promise to work my hardest every day to advocate for you and make you proud.
In the coming days, I’ll launch a fuller website with more information. In the meantime, know that I strongly believe in a fair and just political system where every voice is heard and people have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. That means:
-
Keeping our communities safe—including real action to prevent gun violence.
-
Investing in our public schools—so every child has the opportunity to succeed.
-
Ending gerrymandering—politicians shouldn’t be drawing maps to benefit themselves and limit their accountability.
-
Protecting judicial independence—our courts should remain fair and free from political influence.
Regardless of political differences, I think we all want safe communities, strong schools, and the freedom to pursue our dreams.
My background is in law and public service. I spent six years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney before joining the North Carolina Department of Justice, where I helped defend laws like the SAFE Child Act. More recently, I’ve worked in the tech sector, focused on online safety—keeping terrorist and hate groups off social media and making the internet safer for children. I’m also a husband, father of two amazing little girls, and a proud North Ridge Elementary parent.
It is a privilege to serve you, and I'd love to hear from you. If you have questions, concerns, or ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Looking forward to working together,
Phil Rubin
